Katarina started skating ice at the age of five. Her success allowed her to show her skills and get into the Karl-Marx-Stadt special school specifically designed for gifted kids. There she saw the trainer Jutta M ller. Witt was able to make her mark in the year 1982 when she finished second at her first World Championships at Copenhagen. Since then the elegance and grace of her skating attracted the attention of everyone. Then she began dominating the sport. Olympic Erfolg In Sarajevo, at the Sarajevo Winter Games in 1984, Katarina won the gold medal in figure skating for women in a highly competitive contest. Witt was the first female to be crowned champion in male and female figure skating ever since Sonja Hiene.
